TaC coating. Tetrahedral Amorphous Carbon, also known as PVD diamond. TaC is designed specifically for non-ferrous cutting applications. This coating is as hard as it gets at 6,500 HV. The coating is optically smooth, and only 1 um (.000040”) thick. The surface finish of the work piece will drastically improve due to the free cutting nature of this coating. In 6061 aluminum applications, we have seen up to 20 times tool life, with no aluminum buildup on the tool. This is also the best choice for hard to machine substrates like glass or carbon filled plastic. This coating can succeed where all others fail. It should be noted that there are no carbide restrictions for this coating. Any grade, or level of cobalt is just fine. Please contact us for samples.
