CrN, or Chromium Nitride, is a low-stress PVD coating that combines high abrasion resistance with dependable performance at elevated temperatures. Its balance of hardness, toughness, and coating stability makes it well suited for demanding tooling and wear applications.

North Star Coating primarily recommends CrN for metal-stamping tools and industrial wear components. Because CrN has relatively low compressive film stress, it can be deposited at greater thicknesses than many other PVD coatings, providing additional protection in severe-wear applications.
